AITOR ÁLVAREZ GILA
AITOR ÁLVAREZ GILASenior Researcher
Deep Learning, Color science, image understanding

MSc in Telecommunications Engineering by The University of the Basque Country. From 2008 to 2010 he completed the Erasmus Mundus Master CIMET (Colour in Informatics and Media Technology) in machine vision and colour science, visiting the Universities of Granada, Saint-Etienne, Gjøvik and Amsterdam. Since 2010 he is a researcher in Tecnalia’s Computer Vision Group, and has collaborated in projects on image processing for underwater and adverse weather conditions, hyperspectral imaging, 3D reconstruction and image understanding for the biomedical, agricultural, packaging and steel industries. He is currently also pursuing a PhD in Deep Learning techniques as a member of the Learning and Machine Perception team (LAMP) at the Computer Vision Centre (CVC) – Universitad Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

Engineer on Automatic and Industrial Electronic by Deusto University, Expert on image processing and computer vision by the Complutense University of Madrid and Expert on C# and Java programming by CIPSA. She has been working on Tecnalia since 2009 on the Automotive area, participating in several European and National projects related with robotics, vision and laser processing, developing specific applications in Labview, Labwindows/CVI and C. She has focused on the development of supervision and advanced control systems for laser joining using IR sensors. She holds 1 patent related with the automation of the deburring process for the foundry sector based on pattern recognition.

Industrial Engineer and Master of Science in Systems and Control Engineering. With over 22 years of experience at Tecnalia, he has managed and participated in numerous projects dealing with the Information and Communication Sciences applied to the industrial sector. His work has mainly focused on industrial communication technologies, databases and machine vision.

PhD in Automatic and Control Engineering (2016), bachelor of Physics at the University of the Basque Country (1999), bachelor of Electronics Engineer at the University of the Basque Country (2000). She engaged Fundación Robotiker (now Tecnalia Research & Innovation) in 2000, where she joined the Image Processing Group as developer.
Now, as a senior researcher, she has 18 years of experience in the development and management of machine vision projects, having participated in more than 10 European projects, and dozens of national research projects, as well as projects under contract for the industry. These projects have been mainly focused on quality control and detection of defects in various sectors and manufacturing processes through artificial vision systems, having worked both in the visible spectrum and with hyperspectral techniques. She has also worked with medical images acquired with different technologies, such as CT, MRI, mammography or tomosynthesis. Her thesis was about new segmentation algorithms using variational techniques with multichannel input and its application on biomedical images.
Her current research focuses on the application of Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques to processes, as well as the design and development of advanced vision systems in different industrial applications. Her work has provided her with two prizes for innovation in EARTO, in 2011 (3rd place) and in 2014 (1st place). She has more than 15 publications, 2 patents, and has participated in many national and international conferences.

Industrial Engineer specialised in Electricity- Electronics by The Faculty of The University of the Basque Country at San Sebastian. He worked at Ikerlan from 1988 to 1991 in the Department of Industrial Instruments and from 1991 to 2001 in the Software Department at the Astrophysical Institute of The Canary Islands in astrophysics instruments projects. In 2001 he joined Tecnalia as a researcher working in machine vision applications, mainly for the industrial sector.

Engineer in automatic and industrial electronics by the University of Deusto. He has been working since 2008 in Tecnalia Research & amp; Innovation as a researcher, where he has specialized in applications related to industrial manufacturing processes. He has participated in national and European projects in different sectors such as steel, food and aeronautics. His lines of research are focused on process automation and quality control, and he also has experience teaching industrial robot control and programming courses.

Electric Industrial Engineer with a specialty in Electricity from The Faculty of Engineering of The University of the Basque Country at Bilbao. After a one year research stay at Philips CFT (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) and before becoming the Computer Vision Group Area Manager, she combined her tasks as project manager in the development of different vision controlled automated systems with her responsibilities as a sales manager. She has managed quality control projects for industries that range from packaging, automotive or the food industry and has also managed security projects. She has had a noteworthy participation in European projects.

Doctor of Science, Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering by The University of the Basque Country. As a specialist in machine vision applications, she has participated in over 50 national and international research projects in fields such as quality control, manufacturing processes, biometrics, recycling and accessibility. These last years, her work has focused on the development of neuroinspired models, a field that has led her to collaborate with the groups of Tomasso Poggio (MIT), John Mollon (Cambridge University) and Thomas Serre (Brown University).

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Deusto University) and Master in Robotics and Automation (The University of the Basque Country). He has worked at Tecnalia since 1992 and has been a Professor of Machine Vision at Deusto University. His work is mainly focused on the development of advanced quality control systems for the steel industry. He holds numerous patents and publications and is also a sales manager in the Computer Vision Area at Tecnalia.

Industrial Engineer and Industrial Automation and Electronics by The University of the Basque Country. He has been a researcher at Tecnalia since 2004 working in numerous machine vision applications, mainly in biometric systems, access control as well as in industrial applications. At present he is researching in the field of bioinspired colour models for the automated segmentation of digital images.

Bachelor Degree in Physics, specialized in Electronics and Automation from The University of the Basque Country and Master in Robotics and Automation by ROBOTIKER. Since 1991 he researches at Tecnalia in ICTs applications for the industrial sector, mainly in industrial communications, databases and machine vision technologies.

Computer Engineer by the Faculty of Computer Science in San Sebastian, EHU-UPV (2006) with merit of an Honors License combined the final project (note: 8.0) as a fellow of the Department of Languages and Computer Systems of the Faculty of Computer Science of San Sebastián. In June 2008, he was hired by Robotiker-TECNALIA as Full Stack developer (LAMP/Java systems) in the Semantics area. In May 2012, he joined the Computer Vision group of Tecnalia Research & Innovation where he has made project developments with Siemens PLC (High precision can positioning system for Envases Metalúrgicos de Alava), OpenCV and LabWindows/CVI (projects for Arcelor Mittal) and python development for Deep Learning (projects for BASF).

Computer Science engineer by the University of Deusto and Master of Science in Systems Control and engineering by the Spanish National University for Distance Education and the Complutense University of Madrid. She has been working in Tecnalia since 2008, participating in several Europeans projects related with the implementation of decision making support tools and Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) methodologies. She joins the Computer Vision group in 2012, where she has specialized in fotonics and the development of biomedical computer aided diagnosis tools.

Industrial Automation and Electronics Engineer by the University of the Basque Country and Master of Science in Systems Control and Engineering by the Complutense University of Madrid. He worked in Ulma S.Coop. since 2004 for 12 years, developing industrial packaging applications and products based on Computer Vision and Robotics concerning detection, analysis and/or product manipulation. He is researcher in Tecnalia since 2016 and he is mainly working in industrial Computer Vision applications.

Bachelor in Physics by the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). He studied the last year of bachelor in The Netherlands, concretly in the University of Groningen (RUG) where he finished the academic year with honors (grade: 9.0). He worked in the technological consulting firm GFI for the bank BBVA as BI Analyst for the period of 5 months before joining the Computer Vision team of Tecnalia.

José Pérez Larrazabal holds a MSc Physics and a MEng degree on electronics by the University of the Basque country. His expertise is mainly focused on industrial process automation, automotive sector, project management, consultancy and training. He is currently responsible for management of industrial projects.

Industrial and Biomedical Engineer by The University of the Basque Country since 2002 he has been a researcher in computer vision focused on the analysis of hyperspectral images. He has been involved in over 40 research projects in this field. His work has been distinguished with the Accenture Award as the best undergraduate thesis report as well as the ONCE Award in Research and the EARTO Innovation Award. In 2007, most of his Doctoral Thesis research took place at the CIPA (DCU-Dublin) and has published numerous articles, holds 4 patents and is a member of a review board in magazines in the field of vision and artificial intelligence.
